Lucky Locals: Projects We Love

Think Spring!

Just because the weather is threatening to turn to warm breezes and sweet smells doesn’t mean the knitting and crocheting season has come to a close! It is just time to adjust your thinking from warm and cozy to light and airy! Lighter bases, smaller projects and transitional layers are a great way to accessorize for a Michigan spring and the unpredictable weather it brings.

The sweet half pie shawlette seen in the above picture was both knit and designed by Ypsilanti native Alex Tinsley. She designed the pattern especially to show off the beauty of gradient yarns! This simple yet textured piece is just the right size for a spring layer and the Muse base keeps it light and drapey. Check out her blog dull roar to see her complete profile and to check out the many other patterns she has designed.

Firefly KL

The Evolving Stole above was knit by alysania. She modified this FREE PATTERN by Val Campion to remove a border which was intended to be knit on after completion of the stole and added on a bit of garter stitch instead. This is a great example of how we can all customize a pattern to use an evolution to its full potential. She used a medium cake of our light and airy Kabam in Firefly.

Projects We Love: Multi-Skein Projects!

Multi-Skein Projects

Our Evolutions and Self Striping yarns are really quite versatile. In this issue, we highlight projects that creatively incorporate multiple skeins in interesting ways. The featured project, knit by knittingfiona, was created by using two Tasty Jumbo Skeins in different colorways to create a beautiful scarf/stole. The long color changes of a Jumbo self striping skein beautifully highlight the soft transitions in wide eye catching stripes. The chevron pattern in the Zickzack scarf is a creative way to show off the colorways she chose. Beautifull!

knittingfiona is a life long knitting addict. Her instagram @knittingfiona is a fiber frenzy of some of the most beautiful knitting photography I have seen! Take a peek at her projects on Ravelry as well… you won’t be sorry.

New This Month:

New Colorways

Cold Snap: This colorway’s frosted blues, pine greens, friendly brown, and winter white make it easy to wear with a variety of looks. Inspiration came from the muffled silence of a cold winter’s hike interrupted by the cold snap of branches heavy with ice glinting in the sunshine.

Riverbend: A dappled river at sunset, the warmth from a happy campfire, and the company of good friends. Warm and cool tones dance with each other in this gorgeous mutating variegate.

Twisted News:

New Things

New Colorways!

We are pleased to announce that we are adding two new colorways to the roster. Please welcome Cold Snap and Riverbend to the Twisted Family! The colorways themselves are quite unique. They are already a big hit here in the studio.

New Uniques! Raven anyone…

Aggie is working hard to get all of the next batch of Uniques up on the site. And (duh duhduh daaa) the full year moratorium on the 2015 Clubs (including Raven) has been lifted so we can release that batch of left overs as well! Available as early as next week. Woohoo!!!

Stitches West Recap

Thank you for the warm (in spirit not in climate) welcome from our West Coast Twisties! Although the weather was not what we were expecting, the friendly reception more than made up for the rain and chill! The breakout star of this show was definitely our show exclusive colorway Pleaides. We sold out of every put up we brought and took a few in-person orders as well! If you haven’t had a chance to see this stunning beauty in real life, check out the model we knit up for our booth below. The pattern Taaffe Place by Jessica K. Larson was made using a Tasty Large.

In the News

We were approached recently by one of the editors at the Detroit News and Free Press to be featured in their “Handmade” column written by Jocelyn Brown. After a number of interviews we have a finished product! Here is the link to the column check it out and don’t forget to spread the love!

What a beautiful example of how to extend the yardage of an evolution to highlight one color over the other. lisamacmillan used a Grand Coordinate of our club colorway Stargazer to create her Stars Aligned project. The pattern by Lisa Hannes used a bit more yardage than her Tasty Large would accommodate without modification, so, she simply began with the semisolid and finished it off with the evolution.

Autumn TC, TG

DianeK’s Twisted Dreambird incorporates both a Classic Self-Striping skein and a Semi-Solid Coordinate in this pattern by Naditia Swings where the striped feathers are the focus.

Wanderer TX, TG

If a well tailored, show-stopper is a must have in your wardrobe, the beautiful Sugar Maple by Carina Spencer should be in your Ravelry queue. This flattering top knit by thecelticknot26 on Wanderer can be dressed up, or worn with jeans as seen here. The pattern accommodates a variety of frames with multiple sizes some of which add a coordinate to the bottom hem of the sweater. Another version offers the same silhouette with sleeves!!!
